PRODUCTION METHODS

In general

The products we manufacture are largely based on flat plates:

  • From discs that may need to be welded if the disc diameter is greater than the plate size.
  • From segments that are processed into a range of pressed products.

Cutting
Hot forming

Hot and/or cold-formed with moulds

With this method, discs or segments are pressed into their definitive size and shape using one or more press runs. Hot pressing is used to manufacture heads and other 3D products with a maximum thickness of 120 mm. Cold pressing is mainly used with this method to manufacture products with a limited thickness and a diameter smaller than 1 metre.

Cold pressing and flanging

This method is used for heads of up to more than 7.5 m with a maximum thickness of 35 mm. The disc is first pressed into a spherical cap (cold worked) and the spherical cap is then flanged to obtain a defined knuckle radius with a straight flange. Naturally, these products can undergo heat treatment if required in order to meet certain specifications.

Dishing Flanging
Segmental heads

Fabricated from spherical cap and segments

This method is used for larger sizes and/or thicknesses and with special materials and/or material combinations. The product is fabricated from hot or cold-formed segments. After pressing, all segments are calibrated and cut to size in accordance with the required form and dimension. The segments are then set up, test assembled and marked. The fabricated products can then be fully welded as required.
